My Coffee Setup
You can find infinitely many coffee blogs, discussions, etc. People are going crazy, optimizing everything. At first, I was not convinced at all, how can that small thing affect the taste that much? Now, I kind of understand they may.
This post is of course by no means meant that it is the best coffee setup or so. But, I believe, it is good enough to start experimenting on some pourover variables, while still affordable (it is relative of course). My baseline is: Pick any hobby you want - you need to spend some money on it, it is for sure. In my mind, 1k$ is zero point. If you need to spend more to a decent start in a hobby, it is considered much. If you can stay below, it is nice.
Let me start with my equipments. As I said, I am aiming to introduce and provide a guide to the people considering a good but affordable start.
Main motivation: I think a satisfaction can only come ofter trying some options and comparing them. Hence, an exhaustive search, even though it is a bit tiring, is the best. This is my approach. For practical reasons, I admit that I often restrict my search space. I am like: I tried this this and this, and selected this for that reason. If you are able to say something like that, it seems like, or at least I assume that, you are having some fun. This is what I do here. Semi-exhaustive search.
In the world of coffee, there are different brewing styles. Many. Here is my breakdown:
1- Espresso based 2- Filter based
Other methods, in my mind, are easy methods. They always sounded to me like you cannot become a master on that style. ?? (No it is not. First, become the master and then say this is not worth mastering! )
Whatever.
My setup:
1- Tchibo gooseneck kettle. In Türkiye, good products for 10k TL. Cheapest is 3k TL. This one is 5k TL, a good one. You can go and ask the Tchibo stores help, if some technical problem occurs. This is a plus for me, when we compare it with the some hepsiburada product.
2- Hario V60 V02 Decanter: It is not necessary, a plastic dripper is good too. However, I think if your server caraf and dripper is separate, it is not looking nice. Some people say that if you have them separate, you can try different drippers (origami, kalita, etc) later. But I think visuality is more important. It is better for one more reason: You do not need to preheat your server and dripper separately. Think about the pre-brewing routine. Especially if you are using a porcelain dripper, how are you going to pre-heat? I was running a separate kettle just for heating the porcelain dripper by a water vapor.
3- Cafec filters: This is very important too. And I think it is super comforting that cafec is the leading brand with five different options. They all have distinct features. You can buy them and try them one by one!
4- THE GRINDER: 1zpresso K-Ultra. Most important part.
5- Some fancy glasses. Don’t worry, your friends will gift you, after they know you are into coffees.
